EXT port

Post by LarryTheCableGuy »

Hey everybody. I was working on a portable 64 yesterday and had a question. I was trying to remove the ext port from the motherboard seeing as it would be useless in a portable(at least IMO). Anyway, I took the cart slot off as it just pulls right out and I see all the points where the EXT slot is soldered. So I got my desoldering iron out and im holding it on these points for like a minute straight and not a single sign of melting. Then I tried using my soldering iron(15watt) and desoldering iron at the same time on the point and still could not get anything to melt. Any ideas on how to desolder this piece. Perhaps a higher wattage soldering iron and then I can just use my Desoldering iron to quickly suck up the excess? Anyway I'd greatly appreciate any help I can get.
Thank You

PS. I will register tomorrow, I just do not have time right now.

Those pins are a pain in the ass  The best way to desolder them is to use a ton of flux.

Hey, how would I use this flux in order to help desolder the EXT port?

You put some on the pin and melt it with your desoldering iron and it will help your desoldering iron "connect" with the solder on the pin and the solder will melt. Then you just suck it up with the desldering iron.
Hope that helps :)
