I went ahead and ripped off the whole RF part of the NES board. My friend said now I can't run it off of batteries, is this true?

find the 7805 regulator. It's a little square chip all on its own off to the side, with 3 pins. Desolder that and pull it out. Now look at it with the pins facing down. Connect the + end of your batteries (must add up to at least 7.2 volts) to the left pin. Connect the - side to the middle pin and to where it says -5v (ground) on the NES. Then connect the right pin to the 7805 to the +5v point on the NES. Also, you shouldn't solder directly on batteries, as they may explode.

Oh boy... I threw that away! Is there a way I can get another one, like at Radio Shack or something?

Also, where is the +5 on the NES?

step 1. Never throw anything away, unless you are POSITIVE you don't need it.

step 2. you're in luck

look at the schematic I just posted, there is a section that has a picture of a NES board. You can find those points there.
