SNES Cart Connector

Post by electromaster64 »

My SNESp project has been at a standstill for a while because I cut the sides of my cart connector off to make it fit in my previous case. I decided to use a different case and relocate my cart connector. Today I decided to look on eBay and found one. I didn't know if anyone knew you could get these off eBay so I thought I would post it.

This post is not to answer electromaster's question, but I have a new question about the SNES Cart connector, does it affect the game and/or the console if the connector is oxidized, especially when planning to use it on a portable?

Yes it does matter. Most metal oxides do NOT conduct electricity, therefore making gameplay worse. Use one of the SNES cleaning carts to fix that problem, or just buy a new connector.

Most people can attest to this with their old NES games.
BTW, NEVER blow on a cartridge. Your breath is corrosive, and can cause your game to actually play worse over time.

Thanks, the reason I was asking is because I have a SNES Mini, and the connector is a little oxidized, but it plays the games well (the only 2 that I have), but transforming it into a portable it would expose the connector more.

Also the connector might me a little different for the mini isnt it?

Yes on the mini it is permanently soldered in place. On most of the version 1's (what I'm using) it can simply be popped off a socket and replaced.
