alternative to heatsinks?

if heatsinks simply block the heat, would it be possible to just use an insulating foam? the foam i have began to melt when i put my 25W soldering iron on it, but im wondering if a system would get that hot, and therefor, could i use it?

heatsinks don't block heat, they obsorb it and disspiate it into the air to get rid of it. insulating would be really bad because it'd overheat.

Heatsinks absorb and dissipate heat. Insulating foam would be bad. It keeps heat in or INSULATES. Unless you want to keep cooked chickens in your portable just use heatsinks.

wait, so you mean you guys DON'T want your portables to cook your chickens to a perfect golden brown but not too much so the insides are still juicy?
