All laugh at the PAL man who bought a NTSC PS1 screen!

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

All laugh at the PAL man who bought a NTSC PS1 screen!

Post by dunks0r »

In a crazed search for what seems to be the last of the psone screens (could not find a single one at any retailer in Australia) i went to ebay and bought a NTSC screen that works fine.... for NTSC games! Now i knew this would happen and thought ahh what the heck if i cant mod it for GCP i'll use it in a casemod for my pc :)

Can anyone direct me to some info regarding ways to attack the poor thing? i'll have a look at a lot of the pics on here see if i can see any major diffrences on the board... i cant see sony making 2 complete diffrent boards so i'm hoping there is a easy way around!

Thanks in advance for any help, have had a brief look on web but dont wanna use any extra power sucking converters for it..

Again thanks for any info.

I'd just use it for a case mod... or sell it here. Unless there is a jumper that you can change, or if there is a how-to out there, it'll probably be kinda hard to do.

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

Am going to see if the gamecube itself can be modded to ntsc and if it can, i'll just import the few games that i do actualy like (only bought the gc recently only 1 game) might be worthwhile looking at it that way... Just seems hard to beat the PS1 screen for price and power consumption!

http://gamesx.com has a region mod for the gamecube, not sure if this will help though.

The region mod only changes from US to JAP something like that... They're both ntsc. The PAL gamecube has a totally different board then the ntsc one so there is nothing you can do... Exept sell it to one of us.

Dam! when theres a will (and a soldering iron) theres a way!

I'm pretty new to making portables, and even newer in the gamecube area what if the ps1 screen could be hacked to take vga and mod the gamecube to put out vga, would this solve my problems? am i right for thinking there is no PAL VGA and NTSC VGA... just VGA? (feel free to slap me round a bit for not looking further into it, i`m at work and cant research too much)

And no guys i'm not selling it, cos even if it dont work for my GC i'll still use it for my PC casemod :D

I found this which looks fairly straight forward (about halfway down is some diagrams)
VGA MOD for PSone Screen

VGA OUTPUT for GC

If you have a mod chip int he Psone, use the program that makes any NTSC games run in PAL, and vise versa with PAL games in NTSC... Nice little program... doesn't ALWAYS work though...
