Small Portable DVD player

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Small Portable DVD player

Post by SavageHenry »

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but i was thinking that it would be cool to try to make a small portable dvd player with the screen from that hip controller device (i don't rememebr the exact name, it's mentioned elsewhere on this board) and some sort of small dvd player. Does anyone know if this is feasible? I know there are all kinds of portable dvd players out there, but it'd be cool to make my own.

It sure is fesable. All you need to do is go down to your local electronics super store and buy a portable DVD player for ~$150.

Now can you build one, I dont see why not but using a Hip Gear Screen is just plain riduculious. For one the DVD players they make have at bare minimum 5" screen a 2.6" is going to be insanly difficalt to see on. It wouldnt really be worth your time and money invested for what you'd get out.

I've decided to solve my portable video needs by buying the Movie Player for GBA. It takes CompactFlash and, from what I've read, you can fit about 3 hours of video on a 256MB CF card. It also plays music, lets you read e-books, and has a built in NES emulator, which really just a version of PocketNES by loopy. I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. I've read a lot of good reviews about it. I'll let you guys know how good it really is.
