How many volts does ps2 use

Post by XPCportables »

how many volts is the minimum that the old ps2 requires because if it's 12v i have found some very good batteries that only cost $12.00 on ebay buy it now after shipping for ps2p's

Wow, we need to add this to the sticky. I'm not exactly sure, but you could try searching the forums because this has been asked several times before. Also, the DVD drive in the PS2 is probably a standard-like one which will require a 12v and 5v power supply, I don't know about the actual board.

ill search for that. the batteries are actually portable gamecube batteries that are supposed to last 1 and a half hours of play with the screen. just search gamecube batteries

I really need to know this as well, because if the dvd drive uses the standard 12v and 5v requirements, then I wanna know if its safe to assume that I can connect a molex to the PS2 and connect everything in my PC.

I don't have it with me but check to see what each of the four wires hold with a multimeter. One should be 12v and the other side should be 5v. The two pins in the middle should be the ground.

the old PS2 requires 12V....there are four main power pins, two of them will be connected to ground (just check with a multimeter to see which two) and the other two are the 12V input :)....both gannon and I have tested it with a GC ac adapter and it works fine :). I suppose I'll make a PS2 sticky later...now...I have portable work to do ;)....if I get done tomorrow (which I kind of have to) I'll post some pics ;)
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

So two of the pins are 12v? I would've never thunk it to be that!

If no one has it done by monday, I'll see if I can do it...not sure though but we'll see.

yeah, both pins are connected...so really, it's just a simple 12V input, which I believe can actually take 11.1V, according to gannon, but I'm not too sure...

So, in your opinion, do you think I should hook up two pins to a molex and connect it to the pc? OR, connect the two 12v pins together and the two grounds together, then connect it to ONE molex (the 12v wire and ground wire)?

Okie dokie!!! I just need to see which pins specifically is the 12V and which is ground then. I'm sure the outside 2 are the 12v pins and the middle two are the ground yes?
