Flux helps you solder. It is usually sold in a tube near solder and solderring tools.

i hate tact switchs.. why not just chop and relocate... saves time space and most of the time conforms to the case... short of that you could just desoulder the ic and mount it close to the snes bord as you can. the switches are a prefrance thing any ways

I agree with cennar, especially if you are doing a portrait-style portable. Just use the original control board, if you need to chop it, it's probably worth it anyway. Some systems don't even need the chopped controller (ex: N64 boomerang controller has chip, D-pad, analog stick and other buttons all on different boards connected by wires.)
