Removing game rom technique?

Post by sbf »

Hi, I removed a games rom chip from my radica and managed to damage a few of the tracks on the board.

Whats a good way of removing the chip next time?

I used a desoldering pump on each pin and then worked each pin up by prising them and heating with the soldering iron (15w).

Also can the chip be left on and soldered to?

Yeah I'd also like to know how to safely remove the ROM from the Radica, it seems to be stuck to the board even if I remove all traces of solder.

I don't really want to just pry it off with a scredriver, I'd like to be more careful.

Any suggestions?

I belive it was glued down before solderd into place , try a blowdryer to heat it up and make sure all solder is removed from pins, it does not take much to hold it down.

i screwed up trying to remove the ROM the first time, but i later found out that an X-Acto knife can save you 20 bucks. so use an x-acto knofe to remove the rom by cutting closest to the ROM chip. note that with the rom chip i was able to make a pirate genesis cartridge that works with all genesis systems, and i took the controller and hacked it to hook in to a PC. hope this helps.
