I've been working extremly hard on the N64p4 the past few days but unfortunately I had to abandon the project. Why? Because everything that could go wrong, did! I used about 3 N64s, which all got fried, I did 3 cartridge slot relocations, and finally my PSone screen that I was using exploded!!!!!!(well it got fried, but when it did there was a pretty big spark). Anyway, I'm really pissed off 'cause of how much effort and money went into this portable, which would have been my favorite N64p, had it not failed......I'm currently in Vienna, Austria visiting right now so unfortunately I can't work on anything 'till monday but when I get back I'm just going to work on the GCp. I'm tired of those N64s frying!!!!! I still have to get a screen but I should be able to find one somewhere.
Thought I´d just vent some of my anger by posting this and hopefully I'll be able to post some more this week.
Oh yeah, when I get back I'll post pics of what the N64p4 would've looked like.............well I'm off to go cry about my broken N64p4
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
Yeah and it was gonna be my favorite N64p yet! I probably won't start on a new N64p until I do something on the GCp. I really want to get some progress done on that portable and since I still have my N64p2 (which I modified to run off only 1 7.2v 3Ah battery, btw) I'm laying off N64ps for a while. I really want to make a vacuum formed N64p case but I'm gonna do the GCp one first. I'll try and finish the wiring first when I get back, though.

OK here are the pics. I'm also including pics of the N64p3 (which is also broken ).

I'll probably finish my N64p4 soon if I can find a screen. I'm not going to work for hours a day on it, though, I'm just gonna take it slow and make sure nothing breaks!!!!!!
At some point I'm going to fix the N64p3 but not anytime soon. I'll at least finish the N64p4 before I fix the N64p3. And of course, there's still that GCp I gotta work on....................

Don't sweat it on the 3 fried N64's and screen. I tried to make an NESp for 2 years. I fried 3 NES's and a $150 portable 3" tv from Radioshack. It seems like the big guy upstairs doesn't like me very much.
lol yea, join the club I fried that same TV from radioshack (the RCA 3", right?) and a couple of $100 CDX systems making my portable CDX. Fried 2 N64s making my portable N64 and I also fried 3 Saturns making my portable saturn :O So yea, it's just the price of portable bliss I guess...you just have to hang in there, cause the reward comes when it's all finished
Awesome N64p's BTW, how did you get them so small?? That case looks like it worked really well for you...it's tiny!
Yeah, the 3 inch screen N64p was my favorite one 'cause it was so small! The 4th one would've been cool because it would be the second smallest yet it would've had the biggest screen. But they won't be fixed until I get something done on the GCp. I just got another PSone screen ( ) so I can at least try finishing the wiring of power and AV.
Btw, that was a RCA 3 inch screen that fried. 120 bucks down the drain!

how did it fry? If you switched the polarities like me, there's a possible way to fix it. I found a mod that works to repair that. Try connecting a wire from the positive input to pin 7 from the left (looking at the bottom). That can usually get it working again.
Glad you got a new Psone screen though. I actually prefer it 100% over the RCA because of the RCA's color problems, mono sound, and interferrence. Also, FYI, the Casio EV-680 that Ben uses is actually the EXACT same PCBs as the RCA 3"! I opened them both up and found that rather surprising.
Well, at first I did switch the polarity and I fixed it like you said. Then, for some odd reason the screen wouldn't work with the AV input. Then the whole thing didn't turn on and I found out that the cathode tube used for the backlight had shattered! So I'm through with that particular LCD screen but if I can get some money I might get a new. Maybe.
Anyway all of my efforts are now going to the GCp, however I might do a little work on the N64p4..................

I can see why youre trying to make a portable GC instead...the N64 is really losing interest for me cause the library of decent games is so small. I coulve finished my N64p long ago but I stopped due to lack of motivation. However, I did finish this:
Nice portable! How did you make the case? It looks like you used the Frankenstein method on a Sega nomad and I guess the original Sega CDX case. Anyway, looks great, congratulations!
For my GCp I'm making a vacuum formed case for so it's handheld. Check out the Handheld Gamecube Attempt subject in the PS2/GC/Xbox section of the forums.
Oh, and btw, I do plan on doing an LED mod but I'm not entirely sure that that'll fix it. I'll try though.....................

I think what your problem is that the lamp is broken and by shattering the bulb have shorted/fried something on the board that supplies power to the lamp. (I wish I could get to doomportables right about now. ) Anyway by doing the led mod you'll elimanate the short and the problem will be fixed. Or something like that. If you still cant get it to work Ill have the remains!
