Wide controller

Post by Cyberblade »

I'm building a portable SNES and wanna build it wide like a gamegear or nomad, rather then tall like GB. How do I get the controller inputs spread out over the distance of the unit? Thanks.

Desoldering ribbon and a saw

Edit:
Err...actually, I thought you meant the Controller inputs, not the buttons. For the buttons all that is needed is some soldering skill and/or not something to cut the controller board.

Can you be just a tad more specific then that? Soldering skill and what? And how/where and what to solder?

You could do it this way. You would cut the controller and solder the wires to the traces you cut. You would need to scrape off some of the solder mask(green coating)so you could solder onto the copper traces. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v454/ ... hwires.jpg

This isn't the only way. You could solder wires directly to the chip or solder wires from the button contacts to switches. As for your skill it shouldn't be that hard if you use flux, small solder (i use .015 dia), and a iron with a tip small enough.

Now I just need a 5" PSOne screen and get it hooked up, and I'll have everything I'll need. =P

What switches are you all using for the controller? Thanks.

maybe he's gonna just put the normal buttons on top of the controller board.

I, on the other hand, am looking into an uber-portable. It is gonna be hella expensive, but friggin' AWESOME! I'm gonna get one of those mini-computers that fit in the palm of your hand, build a holding case out of a controller, and have emulaty goodness!
