Where to buy RCA inputs

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Where to buy RCA inputs

Post by EmreNU »

I want to be able to use my portable as a standalone monitor so I would like to use RCA inputs (Video, R&L audio). Does anyone know where I can buy just the input sockets, or perhaps an effective alternative?

Thanks!

Radio Shack
DigiKey

Or you could cannibalize them off a dead VCR. :)

Thanks for the reply; yea I've checked those places and I didn't find just the RCA plugs, I found many types of connections and extenders, etc. Any other ideas? (I don't have any dead stuff laying around)

Buy a switch toggling the two signals (console and rca input) and get one of those extenders. You can use a plain audio extender and use of for video instead (but only mono sound then unless you get two). I know cause I used it to test out a busted nes, and it worked.

Anyways, plug the switch into the screen, and plug each of the signals from the console into the switch, or switches. Then do the same for the extenders.

Hope I was clear enough.

Digikey part #'s:

White panel mount phono jack: CP-1414-ND

Yellow panel mount phono jack: CP-1415-ND

And there's also a red jack but I don't have the # for that right now.
Hope this is what you needed.

I have some of those I ordered a while ago. They're really nice av jacks. Not a bad price too. :)

I believe the outside is ground, but don't trust me. I just recall that I read that in somebody's post or tutorial or something.
