Unusual LCD screen, little help?
Hey everyone, I just happened to stumble across what could be a great LCD screen, if I can figure out how to wire it. We had a compaq internet terminal laying around in a closet (they don't offer service/support for it anymore so it's useless at this point). So I got the brilliant idea to take it apart (engineering student). I'd love to put this nice 10" LCD screen to use, but the wiring is a little wild. It was connected to the main board with 1 harness of about 14 or 15 20g wires (mostly odd pastel colors), and then it has a secondary board on the bottom of it with dimmer and contrast controls. This board was connected to the main with a 6 wire harness (I think), all red, black, and white (so I'm assuming power/ground/? for both the LCD itself and the backlight?). I can prolly get pics up in a couple weeks when I can get back home. Until then, if anybody just happens to know LCDs in and out and recognizes this setup, I could use some enlightening please! All I really want to do is make this bad boy run off 12V DC power (I'm guessing it might already?), and recieve input from some composite or S-Video jacks.

Cant really help you, but a 10inch screen would be sweet. Are you gonna use battery, or just like plug it into a car's cigarette lighter?

Ok, after looking at it some more, I've counted the harnesses. The pastel one has 27 (
) little wires, plus a main ground. It also has a lable wrapped around it, "Compaq Computer Corp. Z0094" and a barcode. The other, coming off the small dimmer board, has 5 white, 5 black, and 1 red wires. I'm gonna take it apart again and take some pics.

Probably a TFT based on what you said. Try to find the datasheet for the LCD (there should be a sticker on the back ID'ing the manufacture and model). If it is a TFT, you might try this. No one that I know of, beyond that guy, has made the circuit work, but with you being an engineering student, you might just stand a chance of getting it working.
