THE INSIDE OF A PS ISNT MUCH DIFFERENT THAN A PSONE

Post by I FINALLY REGISTERED. »

the only major difference i saw was the power input.

the ps1 has a whole BOARD dedicated solely to power, while the mobo is mainly the same size as the psONE main mobo.

the power board is the huge brown board

the power board COULD be bypassed, only that the on/ off/ reset buttons would have to be re-wired.
also the controller port board is much bigger.

also the cd drive uses a ribbon that is identical to the kind found in most $12.99 cd walkmen. and those drives are much smaller.

if you hack at most of it, you could prolly make a legitamate sized portable.
here are some photos i took of my hacked open ps1 that i plan on portablizing.

i diddnt take the RF shield off because i dont quite have all the materials yet, and dont plan on embarking on this untill i have everything i need, and detailed instructions.

Yeah, but the playstation needs 2 voltages while the psone only needs one.

the voltages power the drive, and the mobo i think.

you could probably change it by adding a smaller drive

No, you couldn't. Where would you find a PSX-compatible drive? In your PC per chance?

ps1 uses a CD-ROM drive.
you can use any cd-player for this drive, all you need to do is take the lazer and spindle assembly off, and connect it to the ribbon.

The problem with you, IFR, is that you assume wayyyy too much.

And the switch and reset arent complicated, just simple switches on power lines.

The playstation CD drive is a standard laser :D

Ive used a normal laser in one before, and made a ps2 style psx (A PSX with a cd-rom hooked up to it and you use it like the ps2 draw)

if it uses 2 different voltages, just use a voltage regulator on one, then they'll be the same :)

PS. you should have put this in your other thread called "PLAYSTAION mobo"
EDIT:nevermind. i forgot about lockige
