IBM Thinkpad R30 SVP BIOS Password

Post by Haunted360 »

Hi. So I have a IBM Thinkpad R30 with a Supervisor Password on it.

You can not clear it
You can not remove it by taking out the battery

It is on a EPROM or EEPROM. Something like that...

Only way to get it cleared, is to flash it.

Anyone had any experience with this?

I have de-soldered the chip with the SVP on it and sent it off to be flashed but when I got it back it did nothing. Same thing.

Maybe I sent the wrong chip which is stupid because I asked the guy who flashes them and he said its the correct one...

Anyone with knowledge on this area?

Anyone like Triton etc with the skill willing to flash it for us??

Tried the first one and it did not work.

The second one is to much as I only paid $30 for the laptop...

Haha, nah.

Don't worry. I figured it out. There was an ATMEL IC on-board that I need to de-solder and flash.

I got the wrong chip!

Hopefully this one will be it. Theres only 2 of the same looking ATMEL IC's on the IBM Thinkpad R30.

Thanks. I was going to try the HDD idea, but I found the image on Google after a lot of searching...

Yes it was!

I didn't know it derived off of that site though.

Maybe I can try and dump the EPROM data myself again as this is the correct chip...

I'll let you know how I go...

Thanks!

As a matter of habit I browse the base and domain of every relevant URL (depth first) -- so: (irrelevant branches omitted)

I know some methods to reset bios password.
1. The best and easiest method: Close OS and shut down the electricity power of computer. Open your computer box, take out the cmos battery from the mainboard. Then the bios password will be reset to blank. Put it back after a few minutes.

2. Follow some tutorials. For example the tutorials:
Top 3 methods to crack bios password!

3. Use the bios password recovery tool , but that is not free!

So I would suggest you the 1st method. Hope it helps.

Man, I quote!
You can not clear it
You can not remove it by taking out the battery

Anyway, I solved it. I de-soldered the EPROM or whatever it was and I flashed it by sending it off to a company I found on eBay.
