Nintendo security bit - problem solved

Post by MasamuneX »

hey, I can't exactly remember which site I got this off of but I did save a quote off of it.
"In short, I took a 3/16" hex driver bit, and in each of the 6 corners I superglued a 5mm length of 1/32" brass rod (see fig 2). The homemade bit worked perfectly, and with no help from Gaycar."
Pay almost 20 dollars for a security bit? FN vampires. Oh yea this is my first post. Not a bad one eh.

Went on google and typed in "6 corners I superglued a 5mm length of 1/32" brass rod" and guess what I found. Tahdah, http://swut.net/snes.html scroll down to find the pics.

As I recall, the screws for the SNES are taken off by a 4.5mm game-bit(on NTSC models 1, at least), while NES/SNES carts use a 3.8mm bit. I own both. However, the 4.5mm game-bit also takes apart Genesis/32X carts. ^^ I was lucky. I got my 4.5mm game-bit from a flea market for $5 US. the 3.8mm cost me $20. ^^* not bad for not leaving my area of the state or having to buy online....

Basically what I'm saying is that this mod won't work for 3.8mm NES/SNES(and maybe N64) game-carts, since they use a smaller bit. You may have to use smaller brass rods.
Warranty-Voiding fun!

Hate to bring up an old post but instead of buying the 3.8 mm gamebit I just used a pair of small finger nail clippers. Just ask your momma she'll let you use em.

I ended up modding a screw driver and turning it into a spacer screw driver. It's not exactly the right kind of bit, but it works fairly well.

what kind of screwdriver was it and what did you do to mod it, gannon?
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

It was a regular screw driver and I cut out the middle to turn it into a spacer bit. It basically looks like a U or a fork.
