How many fans can you put in an Xbox.

Post by gen2fish » Sun Mar 27, 2011 7:48 am

I'm working on the cooling for my 360 Laptop project. My current idea is to cut the stock GPU to fit over the CPU and place 70mm fans over both. Then I would put some 40mm fans on either side and place some plastic around them for a wind tunnel. As of now, I would like two fans blowing in on the left side behind the DVD Drive, the two fans blowing down on the GPU and CPU, with another four blowing out on the right side. My question to you all is; can I wire eight fans into this box?

In addition to USB speakers and possibly a keyboard.

depending on what type/size of fans.
you could probably fit about 5-6 35mm ones

Should I wire them all to the stock fan port or should I use the bottom on the power supply? Is there anywhere else I should wire to?

not the fan port, that is only made to power 5v specific parts, like the stock 360 fan.
if you try and wire a 12v fan the fuse will blow (rendering the plug useless)

so yes, wire them to the underside of the psu.

You use a multimeter or oscilloscope.

Black cable to Ground (-, GND or VEE)
Red cable to Positive (+, V+ or VCC)

Attach those (as seen in the image) and you will see 12 volts on your meter.
