Sega Dreamcast - Extended Battery Pack

Post by Acronell »

Last night I was looking at this:

Sega Dreamcast Zip Drive

Then this morning I was looking through a bunch of random projects on Mod-Retro, and then it came to me.

A rechargeable battery back, that attaches to the bottom of the Dreamcast, just like this Zip Drive, and plugs into the back of the system where the AC adapter plugs in, and has re-routing for the a/v cable and serial port.

I was also thinking that the original AC Adapter cord would be the charger cable for the rechargeable battery pack, allowing you to plug it into the system and play plugged in at the same time as charging, as well as making it so you didn't need to have like 10 different cables and blah blah blah.

Though I was thinking it would be a lot smoother, and fit better onto the bottom of the system, maybe even have a cooling fan built in as well.

What do you think?

It would work, but why ?

What purpose would it serve?

It would be for if you needed to unplug it for something else to be plugged in, such as charging your phone, or to vacuum, or whatever.

Or you could have it as a power source, and add a screen to it.

Also for if your power goes out momentarily, so that you don't lose your game.

That's a good idea! Why don't you build one?

I was actually thinking of trying to do it, at which I think I'm going to do the whole deal, which means I'll be attaching the screen as well. Also thinking of making it so it connects to the system, but it's not permanently attached, so if the Dreamcast dies, you can just attach it to a new one.

I'm going to need some help with what I'll need though.

I know I'll need the screen, the dreamcast, additional ports (AC, A/V, Serial (maybe)), obviously the battery, some small fans for cooling.

What else will I need though. I'm going to do some research for some info.
