Xbox 360 controller driver chip.....what is it?!?!

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Xbox 360 controller driver chip.....what is it?!?!

Post by 3GenGames »

Hello, I can not find anything on the web whatsoever, but I am curious as to wonder, does anyone know WHAT is on the Xbox 360 controller as the main driver chip for the Micrphone, Analog and Digital devices and even attachments on the Xbox 360 controller? I can not find anything online about this controller chip anywhere, except that someone in china has 158 in stock. XD

I have been wondering about this for a while, and nobody seems to mention it anywhere. Yes, I am curious as to making a modded controller with EVERY button modded, but I know it's a long shot. It's not a goal, it's just something I'd like to see happen/do because those ghetto mods are cry-worthy.

And even if nobody knows whats in the 360 controller.....next best thing with probably uncustom hardware, whats in a MadCatz/Off brand controller?

Thanks for looking and I hope somebody has this info available. :)

Have a nice day!

(I think this shows the chip in question)

It's labeled Microsoft on the chip itself, so you know it's custom and proprietary(their PC stuff doesn't bother hiding the real manufacturer, the 360 controller is unique in having MS labeled chips). The company that really makes it isn't going to release a datasheet or many details, since MS wants to control the lucrative peripheral market for its console. I think Mad Catz actually paid MS for the privilege of making peripherals, so the chips they use are likely proprietary too, or at least flashed with firmware that can't easily be pulled from the chip that handles the encryption/handshacking with the 360.

Yeah, but 95% of the time it's just a off the shelf chip labeled with their numbers. And considering it is a USB device and they have the software to read it, does that mean it's not a FPGA and more of a microcontroller? I'd be suprised if it is a custom chip. I have a feeling it's a very generic device. I just want to know if anyone has insight as to what it could be and if anyone has done testing to it.

And I doubt that they gave them any info or software, or even their chip. Especially since most non-MS have problems with the Mic and random blurping sounds coming out of it. Which leads me to believe it's not their controller IC.
