My basic thoughts weree that laptops essentially are a big screen and a motherboard. I know that some people have got ps2's to hook up to vga or dvi screens and ps2's are a motherboard.
So if a laptop can be run off a small battery then how difficult would it be to make a Ps2 laptop.
Advantages:
*Slimline
*Could be easily cooled
*Plenty of space in a old laptop box
*9v
Disadvantages:
*Low budget
*14.8v laptop battery
*Unique contoller ports
*Would drain power fast?
*difficult to put to VGA
and may require peripherals.
If anyone can help then great!!
Any ideas appreciated!

Re: Ps2 Laptop
Well, if you make it shaped like a laptop it won't actually be a "real" computer laptop. (I know there was a Linux kit for the PS2 way back when but I doubt it's been updated in forever and it's more a novelty than anything.) It will just be a PS2 in a laptop form factor.
But if it's a PS2 laptop you want, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to make provided you're using a PS2 Slim. The only pitfall I can think of is that the Slim wasn't designed to use a hard drive (however it might be possible to use a USB-connected drive or hack an internal one in). For the monitor, you could use a TV with component inputs.

Re: Ps2 Laptop
Its more the laptop form/shape I'm after as well as the large screen.
Do you know anywhere to get a good sized screen it seems to be impossible to make a screen from a laptop one let alone a TV.
I could also use a larger Ps2 as i have one and they have hard-drive upgrade-ability.
Is there any way to just use a composite video to VGA cable or do you need a peripheral box or something?? I could probably fit it in a larger box but it bumps the cost up.

Re: Ps2 Laptop
Using a laptop screen is insanely difficult, yes.
However, using an LCD TV is not so impossible. Remember, that's what the PS2 was designed to run on!
You would need extra hardware to convert composite to VGA again (composite has all the signals jumbled together, which requires electronics to split back up), and the picture would be rubbish because it's only as good as the lowest common denominator on the video line (in this case composite). If you get a small TV with component video inputs, and connect the PS2 to that, you will get the best possible picture out of the PS2 without needing any extra hardware!
