Easiest Console to make portable.

Post by AustinD »

Hi, I'm Austin.

I'm new here, I have little to no hardware experience (I've changed fans in my computer, but thats about it.)

To continue, I want to learn hardware, and I thought tinkering with some old console might help, and to see if I can make it portable along the way.

So, I want to know if a person with little to no hardware experience can make a portable console and what is the easiest console to make portable.

Oh, I would not like people to ream me out, for not knowing anything, like I said, I'm new here.

Thanks.

Hi, welcome to the forums!

The consoles generally considered the easiest to do are NOAC (Nintendo on a chip) systems. Typically, they are controllers (often N64-shaped) that hook directly into the TV. With built in games and already wired for power, they only need a screen with speakers and a new case.

You may want to do some easier hacks first, though, to get a feel for soldering and other skills you will learn.

Anything that requires a little soldering. Perhaps wiring up an LED to batteries, or something of that nature.

Anybody have some other suggestions?

Generally, cartridge based systems are much easier to portabilize. There are an assortment of A/V, modchip, and LED mods for pretty much any system.

here's another question, and remember I'm a newbie.

What is a NOAC, I've never heard of it. does it have to do with the NES?
