My first mod

So I'm looking to mod my first GCN to make it portable. I've looked around and really like this article on it:

I've dug through this forum and bens site as I LOVE his mods. I've come across the ZNs quite a lot here too, and checking it out, I've got some ideas for it (Then I noticed that SS used one (the two ZNs on top of each other). My other idea that I was wondering about is this, please remember its my first mod and I want it to go right so please no basing.
One ZN-40 on top of a ZN-45 so two separate layers . The ZN-40 would house the main parts, the MOBO on the left side, the power regulator (mine is pre 2004 so I'm assuming it has it) and the Disc Drive in the middle. Now it would all be sealed except for the middle, which would be cut to the exact size of the DD. One top would be the 45, with the LCD screen and under it the battery pack, and the controller obviously. I would want to keep the original ports and maybe an external A/V if possible. I just don't want bulk, weight isn't THAT important to me.

So some questions to the pros and people that have worked with ZNs. Is this feasible and possible? If not, what do you suggest?
