I just got a Droid 2 this past weekend - loving it so far.

How the hell could you justify the mandatory $30/month data plan? That is what kills all Droid Phones on Verizon's network. I live on a campus where there is wifi every inch so having a data plan is worthless. Is there even a way to get the Droid 2 without the Data plan that isn't just an unlocked phone with no service? I would like service too since I'm already on Verizon. Guess I'll just have to settle for one of the new iPod Touches and carry my awful LG Decoy with me.

Umm cause not all of us live where there is Wifi everywhere. And some of us have jobs , make money, and will pay $30 for a data plan on an awesome phone.

I think he just means his situation. I'm at college too, so I would also rather not spend the $30 a month when I wouldn't need it. If it's a required $30 a month data plan, I'm assuming there's no way to not get it.

If I had a steady job, $30/mo just for unlimited data would be awesome. (Skype for voice chat...) Hell I'd probably get one of those prepaid 3G mobile hotspot things and primarily use that.

Now that Google has added calling out from Google Voice I'd love to get an android phone with just a 3g plan and use Google Voice for texting and calling. Does anyone know if they have any good integration apps yet? So when I get a text on Google Voice or a call on Google voice it would make my phone vibrate. Someone say something if I'm not being clear enough.

That is the answer that I would give. I have a job now and like to go places where there is no free WiFi. So $30/month isn't a bad break.

Back when I was in college, you're right, it wasn't worth it. But situations change.
