Unsolder them. Cut them down shorter. re-solder them.

(facepalms; your com-muni-cation skills are leet; but we aren't a community of elitists.)
  • Unsolder them.
    1. Identify which wires you want to shorten, and where they are connected to the PCB(s)
    2. make a note of where each wire connects
    3. using a hot soldering iron melt the solder where the wires meet the PCB and pull the wires out of the solder (should happen easily unless the iron is not hot enough)
    4. If the wires don't slip out, clean the tip with the wire mesh/steel wool/ceramic disc, etc (don't use water unless you don't mind damaging the iron.) and give it a minute to heat up
    5. if the solder closes over the hole where the wires go use the iron to melt the solder and
      1. the copper-braid/solder-wick to soak up the excess solder
      2. the iron to a solder sucker/pump/bulb to remove the excess solder
      3. push a scrap piece of wire through the molten solder, the excess will stick to the wire
  • Cut them down shorter.
    1. trim the end of cable that was soldered off remembering to leave some slack/extra length to make workgin with/repositioning easier
    2. strip off the outer sheath, being careful not to cut the metal cores, and remove a small bit of the insulation from the end of each wire.
    3. apply tin/solder to each wire to make joining them to the PCB easier
      • Remember that solder sticks to a 'wet' (with molten metal) iron, and with a bit of practice on the scrap wire pieces you can get it to make little pins on the end of each wire.
  • Resolder them.
    1. refering to your notes thread each wire to the hole where it was originally attached to the PCB
    2. apply heat from the iron w/ then add flux+solder
    3. trim excess
    4. double check notes, if connection is wrong repeat... but avoid cutting more if possible
For batteries where the wires are attached to clips either get some wire splices, crimps or shirink-wrap and trim out the middle of the wires, then use the splices/etc to rea ttach the attery to the clips; please don't get the wires confused. It would make me cry to know that someone could confuse Red and Black (Unless it's an HP attery with five black wires, then use tape to lael it before you cut.)

Look at your join date and look at mine. I have been giving detailed answers for many yers now.

But after explaining these things in great detail for many years it becomes easier to give simple answers and let members do some research to figure things out themselves.

I mean come on. If the poster doesn't know how to shorten wires is he/she really qualified to build a portable? Let alone a Gamecube Portable. .... Hmmm

So waste time giving complicated answers. Thanks but no thanks.

Then waste my time I shall! :D

Writing complicated rube-goldberg-esque answers are fun!

edit: lol
