Portable TV vs. PS1 LCD for batt life?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Portable TV vs. PS1 LCD for batt life?

Post by legoboy »

Is there much of a difference in battery life for a potable with a TV tuner and it's LCD than using a PS1 LCD? If so... how much and in favor of which one?

YEA! It all depends on what TV you are using, and if you do the LED mod on the screen. Choose a TV, and find how much current the LCD and tuner use.

Even if they were both converted to LED's the PSOne screen would still use a little more power than a pocket TV.

But if neither had an LED mod then the PSOne screen would use almost twice the amount of power than a pocket TV.

That sounds about right considering that the Psone screen is twice the sizee of most portable tvs. I dont get why so many people use portable tvs when they are only 2-3 inches

Because the PSOne screen has a large board that is hard to fit in a portable. Pocket TV's have small boards and the screen works fine for playing games.

If you are going small, you may aswell just use a hipgear, because it saves you a lot of money.

The DC adaptor for my Intec screenpad says it can handle 500ma, and taht's including backlit screen, strong rumble motors, and an audio amp. I assume the screenpad uses less current than this, and if you LED mod it then it would take even less.

offtopic: How do you test for power draw with a multimeter? PM me.

probably less power draw, and probably the same voltage.
