Im new

Post by RPG nerd »

Hey People :D ,
Im kinda new to this hacking and making portables, so is the NES a good system to start out with? If not, what is a good system to make a portable out of? Also how much does it usually cost to make a portable including controllers and switches and a system ect. ?
Thanks!

I am working on a portable Atari Flashback 2. it is only 35$ for the system, with built in games.

otherwise, you could portablize a noac (Nes On A Chip) those are also cheap and have built in games to.

only some have built in games and most o the ones that do have poor compatability.

But yeah, a noac is a pretty good system for beginners to portablize.

yeah i think i might do a portable NOAC so do i have to get a 72 pin connector for that if i want to play nes games on it too? Will i still be able to use Bens book to make the portable if i use the Super joy 3? what are the main items that i will need other than wire, solder/ desoldering. What type of batteries do u suggest?
thanks!!

ben's book only cver's real hardware, not noacs.

main items you'll need are a screen, controller, and batteries.

I li-poly battereis are good, but if you connect lithium batteries wrong they can explode. So for a beginner I recommend nimh batteries.

Actually, if you use a superjoy and and an LED modded pustom screen, you can probably get good battery life from just using AAs.

i think i might just try nimh battries, but how many volts does it need? im planning to use a ps1 screen and bigger case, since i want to have nes games in it too. But since bens book doesnt say anything about noacs i might have to use an NES:p is there any place where they give step by step information on how to make it by using a NOAC?
