I...have a weird list of artists. A list that I know would never be played at the social gathering of any sort, stuff that's either out of the mainstream or has been out of the mainstream long enough to be forgotten.

i'm back and i am so frickin tired!!! the building that the dance was in was 2 stories, the top was our dance, and the bottom was some wedding reception with a live band playing soul and funk music (james brown-esque) so me and my girlfriend snuck out and danced to the good music. i hate all that synthesized rap crap thats recorded in one take and sampled and looped into oblivion, if the live version sounds like the recorded one, i don't like it. listen to a studio recording of the clash, then "from here to eternity", you'll notice they sound different, because one is done live.

Glad to hear it went well. I agree with you. Pretty much all recorded stereo recordings sound like junk. I still think some of the best music is on the old LPs and vinyls. Even some cassettes and 8-tracks are pretty good, but CDs have ruined the world of music. And don't even get me started on rap. The real rap died like 15 years ago. The only good rap ever made was during or before the time of MC Hammer. GO HAMMER TIME!

i like the sugarhill gang, and similar rappers. i also like a few NWA songs, and some covers of NWA.
i don't think CD's ruined music, bad music just happened to come along as CD's became popular. backstreet boys sound just as bad on vinyl as polycarbonate (CD's). with CD's and digital encoding, i can put a CD in a time capsule and it will still be perfect 10k years from now, maybe even with the "New CD" smell (am i the only one who likes it?)
next year i have to remember to bring a duffel bag with some flannel pants (the most comfortable things EVER) and a T-Shirt for me and my GF, because it is just damn uncomfortable to ride home in a tux in traffic, esp. because no one else was wearing three layers of wool, so the heater was actually on in the car. i was pretty much undressing in the van.
PS her parents hate me (mostly because i'm dating her daughter, but also because i am not a uber-christian/uber-republican/uber-racist/uber alles)

I have a pretty weird tase for music for my age group: mostly classic rock and olies stuff. (60's, 70's, early 80's, select few afterwards) Most of my music is in MP3s or LPs, third is tapes and the last is CDs. (CDs are growing as I download Adult Swim theme music and rip my records to CDs.)

I downloaded the intro to Space Ghost Coast to Coast off of Adultswim.com, it's an awesome song.

They're supposed to have Robot Chicken MP3s up soon.
Dude, go play Attack of the Fever Heads and hit zombies with your awesome pipes! Be forewarned: you will have to watch several select episodes of Sealab 2021 to get some of the references.
