Saw this over at hackaday...
Basically, if I'm reading it right, this guy has figured out how to drive the PSP screen without a PSP. If you follow the links further, he discusses the possibility of a professionally-manufactured board.
Now, as the PSP screen is widescreen, it'd probably be most useful in more modern consoles, or for secondary monitors in PCs. A use of particular note would be in the area of Wireless Video Interfaces.
At any rate, if it comes to fruition, it would be possible to use a PSP screen without including the entire PSP.
