need some help

Post by bean_954 »

hi i came across the whole portable console thing on accident but as i quikly clicked back to return to the google search i thought i saw a ps1 with a screen and built in controlers i then clicked away at forward and came to the web site i started to look around and found lots of different hand held consoles. i then realized how great it would be to make one of these so i registered and start to read all the emails, i ordered ben's book and everything seemed fine and then all of a sudden i remembered that i was poor so i have done this email to find out how much it will coast me to make a portable ps1 ( the blue one ) and if anyone has made one can they give me any advice as i need some on wether or not to carry on with the project.
thank you very much if u could be bothered to read all of that because i know i probaly wouldn't and an extra thans if you reply.

Though I am kind of new, Im almost done with my own, and ive been to england so i think i can help.
First of all isee that you live in the uk, where all video game stuff is far more expensive.
The psone used might cost you about 20- 30 pounds sterling. It is a good idea to get two or three of them, as it is very very unlikely that you will succeed on your firt try
Screen prob about 70 - 90 (get the official psone screen or pocket tv)
Batts are pretty cheap for rechargable AAs. About 8 pounds for 6. These are better than what Ben used in some ways because they are far cheaper.
Ben's cases are about $75 Which is around 50 pounds. You can spend some time, and for free either make your own case out of wood or plastic, or find one.
All together this is about 150 pounds.
You will also need a lot of tools like a dremel, and a soldering iron.
If your good at electronics, and have at least 150 pounds, you should try it.

Nah.

You can pick up a PSOne on ebay on buy it now for about £20, so if you watch the auctions you should be able to pick up one loose/console only for about half that (with a fiver postage). Screens can be got for less than £25.

Ben's cases? He sells them? Um and $75 is not £50, it's more like £37.

Anyway, the only things that cost real money are the console and the screen, which after postage should come to £50 or so, add another tenner for some batteries and your set. Not accounting for breakages, of course...

Your right Alchemist. Since I'm not from England I didn't know really the current exchange rates. But Bean, if you r as u say "poor" than this might not be the project for you.
