Did i just kill my PSOne screen??

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Did i just kill my PSOne screen??

Post by A Murder of Crows »

hey all

was testing out my PS2 RGB output on my PSOne screen when something shifted and the ground metal of the screen touched something on the PCB. Light went out, small burning smell as i unplugged the screen.

i tried to plug it in a few minutes later and got sound out of my psOne, but no video.

FYI, to me it did seem like the PS2 was "turning green" or possibly getting darker slowly over time, as a fresh restart seemed to "clear" everything up.

anyway, is my PSONe screen dead? what's going on with my ps2 rgb output?

the ps2 problem is common some people have suggested ways to fix it. and yes it sounds like you have killed your screen the burning smell was something having far to much voltage and dying

You can try with the method that som members here use: Jump some fuses on the screen to see if it works (search for the topic, right now I dont know what fuses exactly they are), and if that doesn't work, then your screen might be dead.

I'm all alone, dealing with my broken heart. Why I have feelings if they feel so bad. All seems so dark, will I ever see light?

i tried jumping the fuse marked P1. no joy.

i get no back light or anything. what i'm wondering is, since the only part that smelled burnt was the motherboard, is it possible that the actual screen is fine, and that i just need another/replacement motherboard? if so, does anyone know where i could get one?

as for the PS2 thing, when i first plugged in the screen, i got a green and black picture. i changed the settings on the ps2 to display RGB, and i got full color....however, after a few minutes of play, it seemed to be much darker and greener than when i first started.

but i have macrovision disabled via mod chip. so what gives?

the cost and time of replacing?rebui;ding a screens mother board would be more expensive than buying a new screen so everyone lower your hats and pay respects

i figured i'd just buy a sony LCD that died in a different way (ie cracked LCD) and see if just swapping out the screen with a working motherboard might be worthwhile.
