This is my first portable, so does anybody have any tips or anything that could help me with this? Does anybody know of a good case or batteries? I'm thinking of getting a ZN-45 case from polycase.com. I think SS used it on one of his many N64s. And I'll also be getting a PS1 screen. I've seen a lot of people use it, so hopefully it's good.
UPDATE!! I haven't really done anything, but I did order this. And this. And one of these. And this thing. Oh, and another one of these.
Update! I got the screen hooked up! It's clearly not a permanent setup, but it works. It's the first real accomplishment I've done on this project, so I'm pretty excited.

Re: N64 Portable
Anybody know if this battery will work? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2103206 It's over 9v, so it should work, right?

Re: N64 Portable
For an n64 and a psone screen, you only need 7.2 or 7.4v, not over 9. If you're looking at NiMh, Ratshack has one that is 7.2v 2000 mAh. With only 1600 you won't get that long a battery life, an hour or a little more I beleive.

Re: N64 Portable
That battery is NiMH which isn't used by the majority of portable makers. I'd recommend looking around batteryspace.com for a Lithium ion with around 2.5 - 4 Ah at 7.2 - 9V. You'll need a charging circuit and a protection circuit as well. While you could use the battery you have at the moment it wouldn't last long because it is only rated at 1.6Ah.

Re: N64 Portable
Thanks guys! And now, time for a question from.... SuperNewb!!!!! Is there a guide to making a protection circuit? I don't trust myself with finding things, especially since a bunch of links in one of those guides were all dead.

Re: N64 Portable
Told ya I was a supernewb! No, you don't make the circuit, you get one from the website he linked.
So if I get two of those batteries, circuit, and charger, will I still need the TI-blahblahblah thingy? Or is that a protection circuit or something?

Re: N64 Portable
If you're talking about the TI PTH08000 or PTH08080, yes, you will still need that. It is not a protection circuit, it's a voltage regulator, so it takes a voltage (from battery) and brings it to 3.3V for the appropriate N64 voltage line.
Re: N64 Portable
So do I need the 8000 or the 8080? SuperNewb returns!

Re: N64 Portable
Either will work just fine. When you go to the sample page, get all six. Or 1 or 2 of each. Then you'll have backups.
Re: N64 Portable
And now for a word from... Supernewb!! (yes, again.) So if I got those batteries argelfraster posted, I need this PCB, right? And the 7.4v charger? Riiiiiiiiiight?

Is there any way to get the TI 8000 regulator thing besides the TI sample page?
