Any news on PS3 slim backward compatibility?

Post by MountainMotor »

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there is any news about the PS3 Slim having backward compatibility? I currently have a 60GB PS3 but like the backward compatibility on it and thought if something happened to it, I might look at getting a Slim model if it has it. I know that Sony has filed for the possible backward compatibility patent but I can't find any for sure news on it.

None. It has the exact same function of the fatter PS3, only without the option for Linux.

A truly wise man can entertain a thought without accepting it. A fool cannot withhold past judgments but instead closes his mine to new possibilities. Someone who wants to innovate simply needs to forget what everyone says isn't possible.

It's not glossy and it doesn't have touch sensitive buttons.

Wrong. (Sort of...) Some of the fatter PS3s had the "emotion engine" that allowed them to play PS2 games. Only did the newer fat ones later removed that in the 80GB and 160GB model.

So in other words it won't even be able to run PS2 Games through any means, including emulation unless for some spectacular reason they include it in their new firmware update. (Which they won't.) Emulation = Fail anyways so just stick with the PS2 for playing your older games. Or the 60 GB PS3.

Even the current fatter ones can play PS1 games. Slim can't do that anymore.

Everywhere that I saw the PS3 slim specs said that it has PS1 support.

Wouldn't say that, but... A little cushion don't hurt.
