Charging a PS3/360 Controller From Mains

Post by Riot Pig »

Hey all. I work in a video game store, where we have several consoles available for people to try out in-store. The current set up involves the consoles being out back, in the office, with the video output being fed to the TVs in the front of the store. The controllers are wireless, and chained down to prevent them being stolen. This means that every night the controllers have to be taken away to be charged, and then put back in the morning.

So is there any easy way to possibly mod these controllers to power from the mains? I've tried a few Mains-to-USB adapters as an alternative, but none seem to work. The output of the latest one I bought is 5VDC, 1,000A.

Why don't you just solder a usb-cable to the DS3 and get a wired 360-controller?

If I were to run a USB cable to the controllers I'd probably need a 15-20 metre cable to reach, and I hear that the cable might not be able to supply enough power at a length like that. There's a mains socket near where the controllers are placed, which is why I'm looking at charging it via mains.

Ideally I'd just like to use a mains-to-usb adapter, but the PS3 and 360 controller just doesn't seem to like those.
