Has anyone got the portable system to run on a battery yet?
When I move into my new house which won't be in a year when I finish school, I'm planning on making my own portable 360 and also want to try a laptop battery hack. Has anyone even tried to work on it yet? If not then maybe we should get some people to try and get it working. I cant right now because I don't have a lot of space in my mom's house to work on.
Re: Has anyone got the portable system to run on a battery yet?
Nobody has because the only thing that might run it for an hour is a car battery.
The 360 is a resource hog, so no it is not worth it.
P.S. This is definitely in the wrong forum.

He's right - too much power needed.

I bet if you got ~10 good Li-ions you could do it, but it's not very feasible.

Here, these guys are all just being naysayers, it is really not too hard, to be honest. Here, check out this battery, it comes with a step up, so you do not even have to mod the 360!

Just buy that, and you are all set!

When I first saw that, I said, "It may not be a car battery, but it's just as big." Then, I looked at the price, gagged, and LOLed.
I think the aformentioned large quantities of LiPoly batteries might be a cheaper option, although you would need to build your own controller.
For example you could, possibly, for about $1000 less build a battery pack and power supply based on 3 - 4 of these to run the 360 for, in theory, a little over an hour.
OR you could hook up two of them to an Atari 2600 and run it for something like 2 months.

for about fifteen minutes. thats only 80 ah. the 360 draws 500 some amps. its not really feasible to run a 360 off anything but a large sla battery, or an enormous bank of li ions or lipos.palmertech wrote:Here, these guys are all just being naysayers, it is really not too hard, to be honest. maybe when lithium sulfer gets out of the labs you might be able to do something.

The 360 does not draw that many amps.samjc3 wrote:for about fifteen minutes. thats only 80 ah. the 360 draws 500 some amps. its not really feasible to run a 360 off anything but a large sla battery, or an enormous bank of li ions or lipos.palmertech wrote:Here, these guys are all just being naysayers, it is really not too hard, to be honest. The 360 uses about 150w, which would be about 13A at 12v. I have enough SLA batteries that I could run a 360 for 4 hours, probably 3 hours with a TV.
They probably weigh 40-50lbs total.

50 pounds? Yikes.
I think the lightest and most compact way to power a 360 laptop would be a small engine, which would kind of prevent it from being used indoors. Would be a sweet proof-of-concept though.

Li-poly, should be lightest, and maybe even most expensive, too!
