UPDATE: So after some car trouble, and other projects (thank you Life of Brian :D ), I'm putting this project on hold for now. Please don't lock it. It will come back someday, with a legit reason for bumping old topics!

Lock it? Never! I've put many worklogs on hold in the past :D

IT'S ALIVE!

That's right! Now with a working PSOne screen, successfully 4 led backlit, an unfried Yobo, free time, and a little bit of extra dough, my NESp is back in business!

But I think I'm going to Vac-form the case. I don't have enough extra dough to get CNC work done. I'll post pictures when I get home from work. I didn't have time to tear apart my room for the camera cable. The vacuum case will be very very similar to my CNC plans.

And does anyone know how to make a brightness adjustment with tact switches, preferibly the ones that went to the orginal backlight? I'd like to keep the volume and brightness buttons matching.

The original buttons on the PSOne screen are just tact switches, so you can either just wire some up where the original buttons were, or on the back of the screen there are spots labeled V+ and V- as well as B+ and B-. Put tact switches between those and ground and you are good to go.

Ok, so I know it's been almost a week since I said I would post pictures, but I've been really busy.
Anyways, proof of functionality (and don't laugh, they're the only batteries that I had that were adiquite. And yes, the AA is taped on):

Sorry for the blur. I do have an Infolithium L type battery coming, so I won't have to be so "primitive".

I've wanted to try my hand at PCB making, so I figured this would be a good chance! I designed circuit boards for the controls:

Disregard the smaller ones. I did those orginally, but realised that they were half the size of what I thought they were

It's LED modded, so the brightness buttons don't work. I meant is there some sort of pot that uses tact switches like that to adjust? I know marshallh's SNESp was LED backlit, but he could adjust with tact switches.

The brightness buttons still work, though the difference is hard to notice. They change the inverter duty cycle and also the brightness of the video signal.

I'm looking for something I can put between the +5v out of the 7805 and the LED's to adjust the brightness. I might just say screw it and use a dial pot for the volume, because I would like it to be symmetrical.

Can't wait to see what you do with this. It looked cool then, looks cool now!

OK, so you want to dim LED's? You can just increase the resistance on the LED. However, the circuit in the PSOne screen doesn't actually drive a variable-resistance circuit, so you might just need to use a pot. I have heard of digital circuits for this, but somehow I imagine it could be more pain that its worth, though certainly doable. I might pop on the ol' googles and have a look-see.
Emulation isn't accurate. There is no substitute for real hardware!

Best method is to use PWM, that way you don't waste power

I looked at the diagram, and I don't really understand it. I can't read circuits  Could you try and explain it to me, or at least what I would need to buy? I could follow the diagram, I'm sure.

On another note, my battery came a few days ago. I think 6000 mAh will be enough
