Xbox 360 controller Led mod
So I was in the process of removing the green led lights on the board so I could insert a multi colored one Blue Red orange white. However I think i melted all the pads off so it was a big fail. My soldering iron isnt propperly taken care of and doesn't work all that great. I was wondering what a 360 controller looks like on the board when the led lights are removed so I can see what the pads look like.

Meh thats the site I was given wasnt really goo enough though. I tried youtube too. Once you remove the led is there supposed to be 2 dots that look like solder was left over or is it suppoed to look like a small rectangle?eagle5953 wrote:Try here - it's got lots of pictures showing each step of this very mod.

try holding the led on where you think the pad is and see if it lights up. Remember, there's a positive and negative.

Sorry for double posting but would any of these 3mm led lights work in the 360 controller or would it have to be a 5mm...

Re: Xbox 360 controller Led mod
Size doesn't make much of a difference as long as it fits in the case. Either one should be fine, but the 3mm might not be as bright.Sephiroth wrote:Sorry for double posting but would any of these 3mm led lights work in the 360 controller or would it have to be a 5mm...

Re: Xbox 360 controller Led mod
I think im just gonna stick with spray painting controllers then using a ebay mod service that way there.... I don't massively screw up the internals. I'm Thinking the popular color Blue controller with blue led lights.
Re: Xbox 360 controller Led mod
I'm having the hardest time in the world soldering wires to the board. Because I have to hold the Soldering iron the Solder and the Wire in place I dont have 3 hands. So I really dont see how its possible. I think I need smaller Solder because im using a giant wire and its leaving huge blobs. How do you guys make the wire stay in place?

Re: Xbox 360 controller Led mod
you have to get yourself a nice soldering iron with a VERY fine tip and variable temperature... i like to solder on PCB boards at like 700 degrees cause i can just quickly touch the board n pull the iron back then put the wire down into the liquid pool of solder... but u need to secure the pcb "tin" the wire so it has some solder on it and then just hold the wire and the soldering iron

Re: Xbox 360 controller Led mod
I can do this led mod for anyone who is interested. Make an offer for my time plus shipping back and pay for leds if you need me to provide, I have some different colors available or you could send me the ones you want me to use with the controller. On some of the newer cg controllers the leds are not as bright when using the battery pack verses AA.
That's Hacking Awsome
