Iteresting Addon

Post by Sparkfist »

I was checking out the new link on doomportables and in Play:Right they have something neat.

I have to say this is about the closest thing Sega came to making a Hard drive, but hey it sure shows hardware addon is possible.

as cool as that would have been, I'm not surprised it's never been released.

That would be cool. If they use regular zip disks I'm definitley going to find one to buy. Somebody has to have one it's just a matter of time until I find it. It looks cool though.

yeah, but since it was never released I'm sure it's limited to less than 50 world wide.

Its a real shame that we cant find something like the SDK for the Dreamcast otherwise we could homebrew the Hard drive and (yes I liked it too) the VMU mp3 player.

I'mn going to make an mp3 vmu. So many people have made programs for the vmu it's the same thing. I want to maybe even make a card reader in it. It would be so sweet to pull out a vmu and hook up headphones and everyone's like what's that it's my mp3 player. 8)

It will be worth it the vmu is so small. Hard wiring it will be the hardest part though. I'll go out and get one next weekend I think. How long does the vmu battery pack last? I heard it wasn't that long so I'll have to find a really small one or wire some more in parallel.

Well I've played the games on them (when you save certain games) but other wise with ragular use (near every day) it will be dead anywhere from 6-12 months. Thats what I experianced until I replaced the batteries (about 2 years ago) the VMU displace the game name but will not go into game mode. I'd suggest getting something better then those batters they will not hold up well with something like a an MP3 player.

How are you going to decode the MP3's on the VMU? You might be able to build a CF card reader for it.

I'll have to make a media player or something or the software. I won't be attaching an mp3 player but that might be easier. Defintely sd card though. To give you guys a heads up this will not happen for a long time but there's going to be some more stuff to it then I mentioned before. Once I get some portable inventory and start my shop I'll then start on it. It won't be cheap so I'll need some cash. :(
