Re: Portable-making contest again?
That might make some project cheaper if everyone used the same stuff.....If it were that way for this event, i might save a few bucks

Re: Portable-making contest again?
Excuse me, but I have a question before I commit to the competition. It says in the rules that the system must have on-board controls, but how extensive does it have to be? I don't think I can do any better than firmly attaching a controller in its entirety to the portable and place its cord inside the system- but connect on the outside. Would that be sufficient?

Hot glue is an accepted method, methinks. I think you are fine if you have a way to clip it in place, or just put a dab of hotglue for the contest.

Excellent

That would be good. If that's the case then I'm in.palmertech wrote:Hot glue is an accepted method, methinks. I think you are fine if you have a way to clip it in place, or just put a dab of hotglue for the contest.

If a controller is stuck onto a case (if that is what you want to do), then by definition it becomes integrated to the system if you think about it: may not be ideal, but eligible!

Yes. Exactly what bacteria and palmer said.bacteria wrote:If a controller is stuck onto a case (if that is what you want to do), then by definition it becomes integrated to the system if you think about it: may not be ideal, but eligible!

I've already got my rig running off batteries. Here's three words to describe my portable: Utilitarian, modest, monochrome. In fact, I'll call it Genechrome, possibly the world's first black and white sceened Genesis portable. Also, to do most things with it other than play the game, you open its lid via hinge to trade out games, to detach the battery, to turn it on and off.

Re: Portable-making contest again?
My system is all wired up except for the controller and it needs some case work. Parts for my second portable have been ordered.

Re: Portable-making contest again?
From what I've seen, a lot of the entries to this contest are going to be the same thing - a PSOne screen hooked up to a console's mobo and tossed inside a pre-made case. I hope people at least paint theirs or do something to make theirs stand out.
what is this i don't even

Gump-in-space - looks like your C-sync or RGB signals might be weak, or maybe hooking up a composite signal and connecting it to RGB and C-sync or using composite from a console in one region on a screen from another (these scenarios can give a monochrome image instead of colour).
EVIL NOD - Tough, put too much voltage on the 3.3v line?? Fortunately, it is cheap to replace N64 consoles.
Shakespeare - the official Sony PSone screen is regarded as one of the best for our type of hobby. Yes, you hook it up to a console, controller, memory card, rumble etc. Many are using pre-made cases sure, but they can be personalised in a number of ways. Some members here use Polycases, others make their own from scratch, some design and get a CNC maker to make theirs, some make their own vacuum forming table and make their own formed cases (me for example). As you will see as projects get posted here Shakespeare - most will look entirely different from each other in many ways, and will have different functionality and uniquenesses - so they will stand out from each other and not be "all the same". Are you entering a system too, or just sitting on the fence - show us what you can do!

Re: Portable-making contest again?
Well, if thats true, then I'm super original! My case is handmade, my screen isn't a psone screen, and my mobo isn't even standard size!

Dude, this is supposed to be a portable-making contest. That dresser/drawer definitely won't be portable - it's too heavy!ShockSlayer wrote:TTTTTTEEEEAAAAASSSSSAAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!!
