Re: Portable-making contest again?
Good call, LOB. As you say, no system is perfect; having 3 months to complete a system or two is perfectly adequate.
There are perfectly good reasons why the Reference section wasn't going to succeed, in spite of good intentions. As you say, build-logs are key to enabling others to portablize systems and learn the tricks of the trade. I know I spend too long on mine, I probably spend a tad over half my project time documenting rather than doing; however it is "all part of the experience". If it weren't for people documenting how to make stuff, portablizing would have stayed a "black art" for the minority and not open to the majority as it is now. If however people don't want to make buildlogs, or only partial ones, fair enough, each to their own.

I didn't say that the Reference section failed, just that it isn't growing as quickly as we had hoped. I plan on contributing more to it, but have been pretty busy lately.

Re: Portable-making contest again?
As far as a deadline goes, end of july is best. I'd be back in school in august, and at the end of the month is not a good time to turn in the final product...that's what happened to my entry last year. I had to use old pics because my portable was not with me at the end date. In any case, I agree with Zeturi's statement: Just make a reasonable due date, like some people say the end of July, and if enough people (say 10) still need time then make an extension.

Re: Portable-making contest again?
I really do like the fact that people will be able to submit stuff they already started on. Hopefully we will have a fantastic turnout this year!
I set the deadline at August 31, but if we have an overwhelming consensus from everyone participating that we should just go ahead and vote then the deadline can be moved up. I really don't expect that, but if three months truly is too long then we can deal with that when we get there. For now, though, the deadline is three months. I personally won't be starting until mid to late June so it works out fine for me
Plus, multiple entries are encouraged if you're that bored this summer.

Re: Portable-making contest again?
lets say for example, I have 7 PSPs, and I mod all 7 to excellent use, could I enter it as a giant (Non portable) mod, as in one entry?
Yes it does not meet the requirements but it would be awesome and a feat never done before in the end
and no im not modding psp's

Wait, you lost me... what do you mean mod them to excellent use? Also, do you mean a psp made by sony or like a portable made by you.SonyPortableizer wrote:lets say for example, I have 7 PSPs, and I mod all 7 to excellent use, could I enter it as a giant (Non portable) mod, as in one entry?

If it doesn't fit the rules, then I'm initially inclined to say no. Could you try restating what you intend to do?

Re: Portable-making contest again?
lets say the psp automatically shuts down after 5 minutes, well what im doing is something the company should have done and makes the product way better, but the reason it may be allowed is it is being done at least 7 different times in thie compo entry (But counts as one)
Just forget it though

Re: Portable-making contest again?
If I make 5 portables, are they all judged on their own merit, or are the entries combined for me?
Prolly not gonna happen, but I might be pretty bored this summer.

Re: Portable-making contest again?
I know I'm gonna have at least once entry (the P-NES)...but if all goes well with projekt X-90, I just might have 2 to enter by the end of the august

Multiple entries = multiple chances to win
Just make sure your focus is quality, not quantity
