Wow, this fix was hard as crap to find on the net, but it worked. Lemme start from the beginning.
Last night I was playing a game and suddenly my PS3 froze for about one second and then shut off. I tried to turn it back on, but all I got was the YLOD (yellow light of death), or as some call it, the red blinking light of death (better name for it IMO). What happens is you touch the on button, and it'll act like it's turning on for about 1 second, and then the green light will quickly flash yellow, and then shut off and flash red eternally.
You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find solutions to this, most people don't believe you when you tell them about it. It's not super rare, but it is uncommon enough that few people know what those of us who get it are talking about. It really is just like the Red Ring of Death for the PS3. Now I know how those guys feel, it's like watching your wallet and your leisure time happiness go flying into an incinerator.
Most solution suggestions point to overheating as the culprit, and that you just need to let it cool down, but that doesn't work. I left mine off overnight and it was the same problem the next day. Ventilation isn't an issue for me, my PS3 sits in a wide open area, and has run fine since Dec 2006. So I attributed it to old age, and I was mostly right.
The solution came from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_Ic1_TY-GU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As the guy explains, the issue results from the solder connections on either the CPU or GPU wearing out. The solution is to completely expose the motherboard, and using a heat gun at 700 degrees F, heat up the chips to reset the solder. I didn't want to take any risks, and even went out and got the identical equipment that he uses, and followed his directions and examples to a T. It took a while to get it back together, but hot damn, it worked. I'm so freakin' relieved that I'm gonna order a celebratory chicken pizza.
In the event that the link goes down, and someone stumbles upon this a long time from now, e-mail me here: blankdisk@mervernation.com if you need more specific instructions, I'll be glad to help.
YAAAAAAY!
Edit: I forgot to mention, after putting it back together, I noticed that the cooling fan seemed a LOT louder than usual. I think this means that it either hasn't been working for a while, or my PS3 was so clogged with dust (there was a LOT) that it muffled the sound. So make sure your fan is nice and loud and annoying to ensure this doesn't happen.

There was no need to make a second topic for this when you explained the issue and the solution in your other thread.
