Unless your monitors have RGB 11/11/10, they've only got 24-bit color.64M320N3 wrote:I meant monitors.

Re: check this out
So for those who don't understand yet: I am not going through with this. It seems fishy to me, and this is straight off some unheard of site from some dude in China who only accepts (uninsured) wire transfers.
If any of you decide to go for it, in the meantime, I think it's best if we search for these LCDs from a more reputable source.
This is all, of course, if you can not find me something that says they're a reputable source.
P.S. - Change your desktop to 16 bit colour. Go on. Notice a difference? It's not much at all.

Then how come they say they are capable of running at 32 bit color?Skyone wrote:Unless your monitors have RGB 11/11/10, they've only got 24-bit color.64M320N3 wrote:I meant monitors.

(sorry)Makes sense, anyway, 16-bit color is worse.
PS Kurt_, no there is a big difference.
But on screens that small you can hardly tell anyway...

Bummer about the scam thing, these things would have been great.
If we did find these from a more reputable source, I imagine that they would be more expensive.

Link to make/model of monitor(s)? Unless they have some built-in alpha blender, it'd make no sense.64M320N3 wrote:Then how come they say they are capable of running at 32 bit color?

Re: check this out
Definitely a scam. When I asked her why the bank's address and SWIFT # were different, she said "I don't know but it's fine" and has been pressuring me to send the money in nearly every reply. In addition, when I asked her for some retailers, she said "we don't have any".
I did find a nice screen that'll work for ME, though. I asked an eBay seller to disassemble a screen so i could see inside, and they did, pictures for those interested (It's an 8" SVGA screen).

Is that USB powered?
How much does he want? Because I want one of those. Badly.

No, it's an 8" VGA. It has USB ports for the touch screen. It runs off 12V at the standard 800mAish. As always, an LED mod will help with that quite a bit.
eBay link
Cheaper than AEI Comp. No datasheet available, though, stay tuned for details.

Sorry
Sorry for the sh*t link to the seller, turns out that alibaba sellers is usually a scam, especially the ones that only accept western union/ bank deposits. I'm now looking for a seller of these type of LCD's that accept paypal (guaranteed win)

Re: check this out
The screens themselves are very nice, if they exist.
Try monitors on eBay, like I did, and ask the to take them apart. I mean, it worked for me. And it's cheaper than buying from AEI comp for a similar, if not better, LCD.
As far as I can tell, if the LCD has these specs or greater, it's a quality screen, and the circuitry will be pretty small and nicely done. (For an example of what I consider not nicely done, take apart an intec GC screen.
A good screen will/should have:
- Contrast ratio (>500:1)
- Brightness (200 nit or 200 cd/m^2 minimum.)
- Good colour (16-bit or above)
- Good resolution (depends on the size. 5"-8" should have 640x480 minimum). Make sure when you look at resolutions you're looking at NATIVE resoutions, the rest are not the true resolution. Many sellers wil lstate the maximum resolution. The difference between a 1280x800 LCD and an 800 x 600 LCD could be absolutely nothing. Often, a native 800 x 600 LCD will have a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800. BE CAREFUL, THE LCD WILL ONLY HAVE THE NUMBER OF "NATIVE" PIXELS.
- Thin-ish. If the case is about an inch, a thin LCD is usually inside. Avoid really thick ones hoping for a slim screen, though. Take a look at the ports, try to judge the depth of the electronics. Most quality screens will be 1/4" thick, most electronics of such will be around 3/8" to 1/2" thick. The rest is just plastic and screw posts. Ask the seller to unscrew it, they just might.
- Good response time (<50ms)
- Tidy wiring (no tangled mess of standard wire). You should have one to three ribbon cables from the LCD, and some wire for the backlight. There shouldn't be a tangle of individual wires from any other circuit boards to the mainboard.
Feel free to add anything I missed.

Sorry for going on a tangent here, but here's the model number:Skyone wrote:Link to make/model of monitor(s)? Unless they have some built-in alpha blender, it'd make no sense.64M320N3 wrote:Then how come they say they are capable of running at 32 bit color?
SE198WFP
It's a Dell 19" LCD that uses DVI.
What, is this unusual, or did they lie to me (and I doubt a well known company like Dell would lie to me.)

AIEComp screwed me over, they sent me an lcd with a dead led backlight controller, I asked for a replacement, it got shipped to me and it worked for a bit but the next day the backlight went bye bye! don't trust AEICOMP!Rekarp wrote:Btw AEIcomp gets there screens from China to just we know those are good.I am just very cautious when it comes to chinese made goods. i hate how electronic part suppliers give you an option on their website to filter your searches so that you can find a certain part and no results come up!
