Re: Wii is fantastic - thoughts on modding...
Does anyone know of a battery that would power the wii for about an hour and a half to two hours? I saw some cheap li-poly 7.4V 4500mah and if you hooked them up in a linear series then had a regulator would that work? Sorry for my stupid question, batteries are one of my several weak spots.

Amazingly enough, I don't seem to be able to find anybody who has measured the MA draw of the wii!
Perhaps I should do it myself so we can add it to the console power reqs sticky...

I think it depends what you're doing on it, like if you're playing a wii game or playing something on the virtual console.
The gamecube gets 1.3 hours on a 5500 mAh battery, and I think it's safe to say that the wii takes more than that when it's playing wii games.
The wii may be the last console that we can power with batteries before those new kind of batteries come out that they promised us 5 years ago.
I'm only guessing here but I'm pretty sure that you would only get a half hour or less with that kind of battery.

Re: Wii is fantastic - thoughts on modding...
what if you used 14800000000000000mah?
then you could powerz yourz portablez for a long time.
seriously dude, what if people just used 2 batteries instead of one? it's not like it's the end of the world just because newer sytems need more battery power.

Well yeah but powering it practically, it already costs about $50 for a 5500 mAh battery, and if you want to get decent time on the wii it's gonna cost you. And don't even get me started on the space it's going to take up if you try to make a case to fit everything into.

For reference:
A battery that runs a Gamecube for 2 hours will get about 8 minutes of battery life on a 360.
You are gonna need a lot more than 2 batteries for that.

The Wii is pretty much a repackaged gamecube with a few added features, but it would have to use more power.

Well, I know that, I can run them 2 linear pair paralleled, right? I was just wondering if that would be enough for it to handle.palmertech wrote:For reference:

I'm not sure what you're asking there. Batteries can be wired in series or in parallel. If you wire them in series you add the voltages and keep the current constant. I was just asking if you can wire two 7.4V together to make a 14V then wire two of those in parallel? I was just wondering if it'd work.

For a total of four batteries? You could do that.cowsgoquack101 wrote:I was just asking if you can wire two 7.4V together to make a 14V then wire two of those in parallel? I was just wondering if it'd work.

Re: Wii is fantastic - thoughts on modding...
Just did a quick checkup on the wii laptops people have made... All are huge! Not any bits of the board cut off! If you were doing one, I would want to do it right.
Just finished taking measurements, I am gonna work a bit more on a wii laptop case while I wait for my N64p case to cure. I love making cases.
I mean, I have an NESp case, an SNESp case, TWO n64p cases, and a 5" GP2X case, with no portables to fill them!
