nes portable idea
While I was on my way to work this morning, I began thinking about my NESp, and I got a great idea. Why not make a NES portable which also doubles as a home console.
The more I thought about this the more feasible it seemed. I could get a project enclosure, or a tackle box or something large enough to house the motherboard and screen and keep the RF box on the unit since I replaced the connector on the battery with one that fit my nes. My only question is, how would I power the screen if I kept the RF box intact? I could go get another battery, but I would rather keep it down to one battery. Suggestions?

Scrap the RF and go with the composite signal (Which is conveniently located on the motherboard). Just put them on the side of the box, and tap into the PC board sides of them for your screen.

Audio is located there as well. Good idea. Thanks. How much voltage is required for the PSOne screen?bicostp wrote:Scrap the RF and go with the composite signal (Which is conveniently located on the motherboard). I've been planning on putting composite out on my portables from the beginning, its a very good idea, that way you only need one version of the said console.

I like the composite idea. The reason I am making a hybrid portable/home console is because my wife loves old school nes games, and I love portables, a happy medium. I intend on keeping the original controller ports on there so that she can play it on the TV. I am going to use a NES controller for my portable as well by cutting the cord much shorter, soddering it back together, and then plugging it into the controller port. I have a concept drawn up, and it looks really cool.
The only thing I haven't been able to decide on is how I am going to power the screen. I think it needs 7.5volts. I might just get 5 rechargable AA batteries and power it. That would increse play-time signifigantly on a modded screen.

Yeah, I was going to leave the two controller ports on it also, for the same reasons.
