P. 89 Question

On step 11. of Hacking PSone Screens, Ben instructs:

Attach a wire to the left side lead.

Does this mean:

1. Desolder the left side lead and connect the wire to the now desoldered lead.

2. Simply spin the wire around the left side lead and attach it with something.

3. Solder the wire to the left side lead WHILE the left side lead is still connected.

In Short, the question has three parts.

1. Do I desolder the left side lead?

2. Do I solder the wire to the left side lead?

3. Where is the wire connected?

Anyone who has done this before should know the answer.
I'd experiment, but like most of you, I'm on a tight budget, especially with that giant battery.
(In retrospect, I would suggest you make sure the thing works before buying a giant battery...)
