Aeeeris- EEEPC Case mod turned into a product

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Aeeeris- EEEPC Case mod turned into a product

Post by hoang031 »

Aeeeris originally started as an idea then became a mod then a product.

Overview:
I've always wanted a UMPC or eReader but the ones out there go for around 1000USD and I didn't have that kind of money so I had this idea to turn a EEEPC 70x into a UMPC/eReader. Heck the EEEPC has the same specs and size but cost a whole lot less so why not do it? It was relatively easy to do with a Touch-screen kit so I set off to try it out.

This was the original mod I had done to my EEEPC, then I realized the potential it had to become great. So I went and had a pattern and mold done.

Now after months of stress and delays, I finally give to you the Aeeeris's faceplate and the complete product (minus speakers, TS and power button).

The inside of Aeeeris is compartmentalized for each component: LCD, LCD controller, Speakers, Touch-screen controller. Each component sits flush with the faceplate. The Touch-screen controller goes into the empty space located at the bottom right (hinges facing up when viewing at it).

There is no hinge, it just is made to be flush with the battery. There is no keyboard since there is an on-screen keyboard. I had my mold done by Innovative Designs.

Oh, god, I went to your site, and all I could think of was Little Miss Sunshine.

Pretty interesting idea.

Nice mod, but I don't know how you live with an onscreen keyboard.

Anyone that uses a UMPC only uses the on-screen keyboard (except for special models that have it), I don't see how this is any different.

Yeah but it's a little bit bigger so it's a UMPC or eReader.
