No time to talk... working... but I figured I'd throw these up here real quick. This was before I soldered the parts on, of course.

Hey, figured I'd leave a quick update just so you guys know I'm still working on it...

Not much to say, though. I'm having a lot of problems, mostly with the FPGA, but even if I have to buy a new one (bent some pins... it's not in good shape ATM), I'll try to keep getting this to work. Details are meaningless; no offense, but it's highly unlikely that anybody will be able to help with the problems I'm having. I've been talking to Marshall a lot over MSN, and he's been troubleshooting with me...

Anyway, yeah... still working on it. I'll get it eventually. In the mean time, would anyone happen to have a JTAG cable I could borrow? Like, a decent, buffered one? I built a cheaptag cable, but it's pretty flaky, and may be the reason I'm having the problems I am...

You could build a Wiggler cable.

Buffered (I think ) , and only slightly more complicated than Cheaptag.

First off I hope your using the right resistors for your cheaptag, second off don't you only need a PIC that does the buffering for you? You can get them on ebay very cheap...atleast that's how it is for FTA jtag cables...

Whats your soldering iron like?

At work we have this sweet digital station that Im totally in love with... The iron is like 80W so it goes to whatever temperature you want in like 60 seconds from cold...

But yeah it has this "mini wave" tip for surface mount chips, you can do an entire row of pins in like 10 seconds by dragging the tip along one side of the chip. Its super awesome. Its like a chisel tip with a concave cavity on the angled face that holds a large reservoir of solder.

Its technically pretty important to keep the temperature below 600 deg F for SMT stuff... At least thats what I have to do at work.

Anyways I usually order two of all the hard-to solder chips cause its so easy to mess them up. :)

Aries, no, I'm using a CHEAP cheaptag cable. As in nothing more but a 4.7K pullup on TDO and 6 inch leads. I can't afford anything else... trust me... I have 0 dollars and 0 cents to spare, and that's NO exaggeration... but I don't want to get into that here. Image

Tim, check my video blog... tells all about my iron... And yeah, actually, I was soldering those SMDs at about 600F at a guess... intuition, I suppose. :P
