Case damaged in shipping. Question for you guys

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Case damaged in shipping. Question for you guys

Post by ckrtech »

Hey all -

I am anxious to get going on a portable SNES project. My strengths mostly come from the electronics part more so than the case construction.

I bought Ben's SNES case kit from the website, and it was unfortunately damaged during shipping.

Two of those battery compartment borders were broken. The other two (or one) shows some structural issues (I think it might break soon).

Glue is a wonderful thing. I figure I can use some superglue to get the pieces back together, however I am appealing to you guys for recommendations for any sort of structural reinforcement I may want to do once I get everything together. Perhaps the unit as a whole will be just fine once I get the project assembled? Recommendations or reassurance are appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you have to stack the battery compartment slabs? If so, then you don't have to glue the pieces back together, since they will be glued to the pieces underneath.

It looks that way... I've been reviewing the book which actually used Balsa wood (3/8" thick). I have 4 total pieces (2 of each cut) that look to be about 1/4" thick each. Glue them together and I'll have 1/2" thick battery compartments.

So slightly different than original design, but seems like it'll all fit together. Probably something I shouldn't have worried about in the first place, but I thought I would run it by you guys.

Glue the broken pieces to the base first, than glue the good piece on top of that, and it should be just fine.

If it was damaged during shipping why don't you just ask ben to send you the peices that were broken?

he seems like a nice guy who would probably want to help you out, don't settle for broken stuff when you paid for it, even if you need to take it to usps or whatever.

if you can only fix it though. try crazy glue, that is what I prefer for plastics.

Hey Turbo Tax 1.0

Yeah. I exhaled a bit when I opened the package and found a few broken pieces. General order of business is to contact Ben and say "hey this happened, what can we do?" At the same time, I figured I could probably make it work since the breaks were fairly clean. So long as it wouldn't introduce any sort of structural issues with the finished product, I don't mind supergluing here and there.

simon66 - The case is available via Ben's projects page, and you can access it from here: http://benheck.com/hacking-videogame-consoles
