It will be interesting to see here the "nearly rans" - perhaps people who were entering the compo but either didn't finish in time or had system failures; how about posting pics of the systems that didn't quite make it? It will be interesting!

Anyone decided if everyone gets one vote on a poll or multiple votes for their top 3 or whatever??

You guys may remember I stated a while back, on two separate occasions, that if I did have the honour of winning that I wouldn't be looking for the excellent and very generous prizes on offer; just fame and new title. I am as always a man of my word. If my system won, the physical prizes would be up for grabs. How I would deal with that is to open a new thread for everyone here to explain how they would use the kit productively, I would then ask hailrazer to send the items to the winner (1 or 2) of my choosing (irrespective of if they are new or old to the scene), assuming of course hailrazer was happy with that proposition (his prizes after all). I think that is fair and community spirited! Being UK, we use PAL so NTSC systems and screen would be more of an issue (unless I modded an NTSC system to sell it of course), also postage to UK from the USA for such heavy items would cost a mint: plus I have plenty of disposable cash, most don't here, so offering the prizes to someone who will genuinely use them for portablizing and is short of dollars will benefit their portablizing skills. SS - might even mean you have a go at a Dreamcast if you won some kit!! :D

Well, I was originally going to make an NES portable with a vacuum formed case for this contest, but I knew I wouldn't get the plastic for the case in time, so I tried to make a (much less awesome) case out of the NES case, but I still don't think I'll finish in time. Oh well.

I too would be very interested in a "post your work in progress" thread after the competition is over.

i give up... i just don't have time to finish this. stupid two jobs... stupid complications...

anyway, i'll present it here since it's not done.

presenting the HandyGear!

Image

this is the ultimate game gear. it is recased and incorporates a psone 5" screen. also, the master gear converter for playing sms games is hardwired on. so, this system will play gg and sms games.

there is a complex circuit needed to get the gg to output rgb to a screen. however, this circuit gave me problems from the get go. i could only get b&w graphics.

i used a zn-40 case, greatly modded.

anyway, this will be finished in the following weeks. i'll take my time since there will be no more time limit. plus, i wanna make sure it's as close to perfect as i can get it.

feel free to look over my many many pics in my photoalbum.
or if you really want, have a look at my worklog.

i'm very upset i wasn't able to get this done on time. i was really wanting to impress everyone and end up with an awesome upgraded game gear. oh well, i'll at least still end up with the awesome upgraded game gear!

Eh, I think we should give the stragglers 'till midnight so it's ULTRA epic. :P

And chevy, WOW. So awesome, I was already having a tough time picking between hailrazer and Brian, now you've gone and thrown a monkey wrench in the decision making process.

thanks everyone. unfortunately, i will need quite a bit more time to finish it. but, don't worry, i'll be posting my updates and make sure to do a news thread when it's 100% complete.
