If rockbox ever gets the NES emulator working, a great mod would be mapping the controls of an mp3 player to a NES controller with a hole cut out of the case for the screen to stick out. I guess it could still be useful for the gameboy emulator and the doom port, but if they ever get a nice NES emulator working for it, its a mod I think I would have to attempt.
Right now I have an MP3 player that I think could be a viable donor to the project, but i'm not sure since it has a scroll wheel; not sure the the scroll wheel could be mapped to buttons. also one of the buttons has a hardware switch to turn the player off if its held down for 15 or so seconds, so we definitely wouldn't want that button being the "run" button in a mario game.
NES controller in a Gameboy Color?

There are buttons underneath the scroll wheel, it just rests above them. I have an iPod video in pieces on my desk, the buttons would be very easy to relocate, but I don't know about the scroll wheel. I don't know anything about how it works, hopefully I'll figure it out after a night of tinkering.
Also, to everyone that wants to completely take apart an iPod, be VERY careful with the screen, the slot the ribbon cable fits into is VERY weak. MY screen doesn't work anymore because of it.

it does click, which is why I thought there was a good chance it could be used, I justt wasn't sure how it worked. If it uses tact switches as you say, then it would be a relatively simple mod.Super Cameraman wrote:If the scroll wheel clicks in, it probably has tact switches underneath, so it would be usable.
Maybe I'll buy an original Gameboy and continue the mod on that.
