No. I think I will rip it all apart at some point, especially for the GBA tv transverter inside. It all depends if my other GBA tv out card works and is quality or not.

I may well make a system in the future for sale, far nicer than this one, but other things to do first! :P

And also, how sturdy is that 2mm plastic? Sounds really thin. Would it stand up well if I made an entire case out of it?

2mm is fine but does has a little give, as I discovered, which is why I use 3mm now for the front of the case. 3mm is rock solid and has no give. You can use 2mm for the back but the front needs 3mm. Use 3mm perspex.

You can get perspex in a variety of colours, I discovered; black, red, green, orange, white and and a few other colours. I am using black in my current project.

Thanks for the info. I'll use 3mm for the front and back, as they both need to support boards/components, but the sides need to be thicker as they need to have screws put into them (that's how the back's being held on)

Where can I buy transparent perspex?

eurddrue - No problem at all. Use my designs if you like, i'm not possessive about them! (apart from my current project, until after the compo ends, of course).

Mario - Good, use 3mm. Sides can be 2mm fine, just hot glue in your screwposts in the the right places.

I get my perspex from e-bay; get A4 (297x210mm) at about £1.30 a sheet and about £1 a sheet postage.

Search e-bay for "3mm clear perspex".

Actually, I wanted to screw the screws into the actual sides. Is that a bad idea?

Ebay - 3mm clear perspex: Nothing. :/

I still do the perspex/plexiglass. I just put everything else up on e-Bay. I've got 3mm clear. PM me and I'll explain in detail.

Yes, because the sides of your hands will catch on the screws, or at the least you will be aware of them. You really need the sides smooth.

Well, not INTO the SIDE, but... GRR! It's difficult to explain...

Code: Select all

This is a side view. The back piece is 3mm plastic, and the side is maybe 6mm, thick enough to put screws into. The screws will have a small recess so they sit flush with the case. My question is, will the side plastic hold up to it? (Not crack, etc)

As long as you pre-drill your holes, it should work just fine. Cut the recess before the screw goes in, and be careful not to over-tighten. It'll still hold strong, though. Just don't rely on the screw to make that recess for you. That kind of force is what will make it crack.
